When experiencing a past event that could evidently change ones state of mind, this could overall effect ones attitude and emotional opinion on certain matters in the future. This can be due to the cultural evaluations of a person, object, conflict or place that has influenced that thought or action e.g. Liking chocolate ice cream or ones opinion about abortion.
People develop their self-perception based on feedback from others, and the comparison to those around them. By comparing to others, people can learn deeply about not just themselves, but others too, thus improving one’s overall self-esteem and wellbeing. However, social comparisons can be either positive or negative, that is, comparisons to people who are either higher in status or ability, or lower in status or ability can affect one’s own self-esteem.
